Distinctives

Plymouth Christian School — Distinctives

A distinctive and intentional choice for Biblical instruction

School Text

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

School Motto

As God enables – growing in knowledge, striving for wisdom, learning to serve – for His glory.

Biblical Focus

Plymouth Christian School is an independent, private school, providing educational programs for students in grades pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. We strive to place God and His infallible Word at the center of all subjects studied, instruction given, and policies followed. We aim to base religious instruction on the Bible and to present it from a truly Reformed perspective in accordance with our Doctrinal Standards: the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession of Faith, and the Canons of Dordt. We seek to incorporate these Christian principles in daily classroom devotions and instruction, frequent chapels, personal attention in small classroom settings, and while giving assistance to students with special needs or handicaps.

Plymouth Christian School (PCS) is distinctly different from other Christian schools, video-based home-school programs, and independent study programs in its Biblical view of the student . We agree with Archibald Alexander (d. 1851), renowned professor at Princeton Theological Seminary that:

“The education of our children should proceed on the principle that they are in an unregenerate state, until evidences of saving grace clearly appear, in which case they should be sedulously cherished and nurtured . . .. But though the religious education of children should proceed on the ground that they are destitute of grace, it ought ever to be used as a means of grace. Every lesson, therefore, should be accompanied with the lifting up of the heart of the instructor to God for a blessing on the means. ‘Sanctify them through Thy truth; Thy Word is truth.'”

Classroom Applications

  1. Daily devotions point to the need for regeneration, encouraging each student to use the means of grace, which God uses for the salvation of sinners.
  2. Students are encouraged to truly understand and live the school motto: “As God enables, growing in knowledge, striving for wisdom, learning to serve – for His glory.
  3. Pastors and elders address students every other week during chapel with spiritual and practical topics. Chapel times especially emphasize the need for experiential salvation.
  4. PCS teachers seek to include the Christian perspective and/or worldview in all courses to help students Biblically apply knowledge in today’s world.
  5. PCS students have daily Bible instruction, all year . These studies include:
    1. Bible History with application to each student’s life
    2. Church History
    3. Bible Doctrine
    4. Family Living
    5. Christian Apologetics
  6. Service projects are included at all levels

Student Enrollment

Parents, regardless of race, nationality or ethnic origin, are invited to enroll their children in Plymouth Christian School. Because the school is based on religious principles taught in the Bible and viewed as part of a three-fold link consisting of home, church and school, it is necessary that all students admitted to the school proceed from homes, which agree with the teachings of God’s Word and the three Doctrinal Standards listed above.

Financial Plan

The PCS is a parochial school system that receives funds for operation from tuition paid by parents, assistance from supporting churches, and gifts. Tuition rates for students reflect a sliding scale for grades K-12 to ease the cost of education for large families. The PCS Foundation now provides 2 – 4% of the annual budget.

Transportation

The outlined portion of the map beneath identifies the general region within which the Plymouth Christian School buses operate. Since the routes change from year to year and not all areas within this region receive bus service, it is important that you make contact with the school’s Transportation Supervisor to determine whether your home can be serviced by one of the existing routes. PCS buses have received a 100% passing grade for state school bus inspections for many years.

The map below represents the general area within which our school buses provide transportation to the elementary and high school buildings. Families are urged to consider these boundaries when considering the purchase or construction of a new home. Families located outside these boundaries often must provide their own transportation to the nearest bus stop within this area.
